How to use it
- Type or paste the names, one per line.
- Choose Number of teams or People per team, and set how many.
- Press Make teams. Shuffle again for a new split, or copy the teams to paste them in a chat or a document.
Random and balanced
The names are shuffled with your browser’s cryptographic random generator and then dealt out one by one, like cards, so team sizes never differ by more than one. With 23 people and 4 teams you get three teams of 6 and one team of 5.
For classes, sports and work
Teachers use it for group projects and table groups, coaches for five-a-side games, and managers for workshop breakout groups. Because the split is random, nobody can say the teams were picked unfairly.
Questions and answers
What does People per team do?
It sets the size of each team instead of the number of teams. With 20 people and 4 per team you get 5 teams. When the numbers don’t divide evenly, some teams get one person fewer.
Can I keep certain people apart?
Not automatically. Make the teams, and if two people end up together who shouldn’t, press Shuffle again.
Is my list saved?
Yes, in your own browser, so it is still there next time. We don’t store it on our servers.
